When encountering the Elderclaw, it feels less like seeing an animal and more like standing before the spirit of an entire forest. Osto silvanimus, commonly referred to as Elderclaw, is half plant, half bear, an ancient guardian of the forest that lives in close symbiosis with its surroundings. The planned release date is September 30, 2025.

Behavior and Abilities
Typically, the Elderclaw does not attack without reason. However, when provoked, it unleashes powers that far exceed those of an ordinary animal. With vines and roots, it surrounds itself with a living armor while simultaneously ensnaring enemies or simply knocking them down with its powerful claws.
An agitated Elderclaw also summons a Spirit Echo—a ghostly manifestation that hovers nearby. This Echo weakens opponents through vibrating waves while simultaneously strengthening allies. In battle, the Spirit Echo gathers the energy of violence and rage, redirecting it back into the Elderclaw. This creates a kind of explosive plant power that can make the entire forest around it bloom.
Sometimes, the Spirit Echo materializes briefly, only to explode in a cloud of charged spores. These spores burn enemies but have a healing effect on allies—a perfect blend of offense and support.
Taming and Use
While fully grown Elderclaws have rarely been tamed, their young—more like seedlings than true young animals—are more receptive to the influence of survivors. This fact has also led to Elderclaws being hunted for their seeds.
Those who manage to raise a young one ultimately gain a living forest guardian that not only protects in battle but can also use its roots to sustainably harvest trees in the surrounding area. This makes it a unique combination of protector, healer, and resource gatherer—and one of the most mystical creatures on the ARK islands.
