The era of spider mutations from the Araneo update has only just begun, and already Studio Wildcard is announcing the next community favorite for the TLC (Tender Care & Love) spotlight. Thanks to the votes during the past Extra Life Event, the Therizinosaurus is next in line to receive an update.
Tickle Chicken - It is the all-in-one machine: efficient at harvesting fiber, a top-tier contender in boss fights, and at the same time, the feathered nightmare of every unprepared survivor in the jungle. The upcoming TLC update aims to sharpen the creature's well-known strengths and adapt animations and gameplay roles to modern UE5 standards, without losing the charm that the community has loved for years.

What is the "Tickle Chicken" in ARK?
In the world of ARK, the Therizinosaurus is an absolute all-rounder for the mid- and end-game. Despite primarily being a herbivore, it is one of the most dangerous territorial creatures on the maps. Its claws allow it to completely ignore player armor, making it equally feared in both PvP and PvE.
For tribes, it has become indispensable: it harvests wood, fiber, berries, and meat with extremely high efficiency. Due to its resistance to fire damage and its ability to deal massive damage per second (DPS), it also regularly forms the backbone of armies in boss fights – especially against the Dragon.
The real Therizinosaurus: Facts from paleontology
In reality, Therizinosaurus cheloniformis lived during the late Cretaceous period (around 70 million years ago) in the region of modern-day Mongolia, including the Gobi Desert. When the first fossils – gigantic, scythe-like claws up to one meter long – were discovered in 1948, Soviet paleontologists mistakenly thought the remains were the ribs of a giant, extinct sea turtle. This is also where the species name cheloniformis (turtle-shaped) comes from.
Scientific Estimates
Length
Approx. 9 to 10 meters
Weight
Up to 5-6 tons (comparable to a T-Rex)
Diet
Herbivore (plant-eater)
Unique Feature
Longest claws in the entire animal kingdom
Despite belonging to the theropods – the group that otherwise almost exclusively comprises carnivores like the Tyrannosaurus or Velociraptor – the Therizinosaurus was a pure herbivore. It possessed a massive, barrel-shaped body for digesting fibrous plant food, a long neck, and a toothless beak. According to recent biomechanical studies, the massive claws were probably not used for active combat, but rather to pull down tree branches, scrape off bark, or defend against apex predators like Tarbosaurus. Furthermore, modern research considers it highly likely that the animal was densely feathered.
