Boaratos and Arkology

Boaratos - Summer 2026 - by Wildcard (based on concept by Dragonheart)

Studio Wildcard has confirmed a specific content update for summer 2026. The upcoming expansion map "Astraeos," developed by Nektatus, integrates a new creature into the official ecosystem: the Boaratos.

The Boaratos

This creature reaches almost double the physical size of a regular Daeodon. The primary gameplay mechanic focuses on hybrid resource extraction and combat. Massive tusks allow for efficient tree felling. The tactical advantage lies in a thermal ignition mechanism: When agitated, the fur and tusks catch fire (which some may rightly scream about - fire damage).

The Origin Came via ARKOLOGY from DragonHeart

The architecture of the Boaratos does not stem from the internal development of Studio Wildcard. The design is directly based on a concept from the developer DragonHeart.

Before the concept was adapted for the base game, the visual and narrative development took place within the "ARKOLOGY Cinematic Series" on YouTube. This series format utilizes the Unreal Engine 5 from ASA as a virtual film studio. The storyline documents the conflict of a prehistoric survivor with the entities of the ARK simulation. Through the use of custom creature models, choreographed combat sequences, and a standalone lore, the YouTube series serves as an audiovisual proof of concept for new species.

The ARKOLOGY Modification Suite

The cinematic concepts of the series form the foundation for the playable "ARKOLOGY" modification suite. Through CurseForge and the integrated crossplay architecture, these developments are directly injected into the players' sandbox. The system includes three core modules:

  • Overseer's Experiments: The source of the Boaratos concept. This module integrates the massive apex creatures from the series, including the destructive Desolatitan, the aberrant Spinosaurus Hapipalus, and the Sanguivern.
  • Dangerous Bosses: Reconfigures the boss system. Allows the taming of variants such as the Megaraneo (Broodmother) or the Brutepithecus and transfers them from isolated arenas into the open game world.
  • New Encounters: Modifies the global spawn pool. Vanilla creatures are replaced with modified, series-accurate variants with adjusted mechanics and textures at a defined probability.
