Helicoprion - Spiral Tooth

Helicoprion by Wildcard

A new sea predator enters the depths of ASA: The Helicoprion, another spectacular prehistoric inhabitant from the popular mod series ARK: Additions by Garuga123, joins the main game of ARK: Survival Ascended. Starting August 20, 2025, it will be available for free to all players!

The Helicoprion not only brings an impressive appearance but also apparently one of the most useful abilities ever seen underwater.

Deep-Sea Predator with Cleverness

While it resembles the Megalodon in size, its personality is different: The Helicoprion is considered less aggressive, prefers the calm expanse of the ocean, and moves almost silently – with its distinctive spiral jaw that grins menacingly even from the depths.

The Blueprint Maker – What Can It Do?

A true highlight of the Helicoprion is its unique ability to convert items into blueprints. This feature comes from the original mod version and, according to the latest Community Crunch, will also be retained in the official version.

Players will likely have the opportunity to convert existing items (e.g., tools or weapons) into blueprints. This could be particularly useful if one wants to secure or pass on a powerful item without losing it.

Whether and how this ability will be balanced remains open – some players fear that the Blueprint Maker could be too powerful.

Pirate Saddle & Stylish Details

Another highlight is the official saddle of the Helicoprion, designed by Rebecca (DarkEdgeTV). It comes in a pirate style, complete with a steering wheel, treasure chest, and a dodo mascot on its snout. Style point: The dodo wears an eye patch.

Facts About the Prehistoric Saw

The Helicoprion is real – a fascinating marine creature from Earth's history. Here are the key scientific facts:

  • Time Period: Permian, about 270 million years ago
  • Locations: Fossils found in the USA, Russia, China, and Australia
  • Size: between 4 and 8 meters long
  • Weight: estimated up to 1 ton
  • Jaw: unique spiral tooth whorl in the lower jaw
  • Diet: suspected to hunt mollusks, cephalopods, and smaller fish
  • Classification: Cartilaginous fish, related to modern chimeras, but not a true shark

Its spiral teeth puzzled researchers for a long time – modern reconstructions suggest that they functioned like a cutting device to slice through prey.
